Barbara Baylor Porter

Founder

Barbara will continue as Founder & Directress of the Bilingual Montessori School of Paris, and will assume oversight responsibility of ensuring Maria Montessori’s Method of Education is applied throughout Montessori Connect. Born in 1935 in Indiana, Barbara first discovered Montessori after the birth of her two first children. She worked at IBM’s global headquarters in NYC and eventually moved to Washington D.C., where 2 neurologists working at the Pentagon recommended she study the work of Dr. Montessori. As soon as she understood the scope and depth of Dr. Montessori’s work, she embarked on becoming trained in 1964.

Her trainer was none other than Margaret Stephenson, celebrated author and Montessori Children’s House teacher trainer and collaborator. Her examinator was Dr Maria Montessori’s son, Mario Montessori. After having opened 2 Montessori schools in D.C. and NY, she moved to Paris and founded the first Bilingual Montessori School of Paris in 1972.
